A Message From Dr. Juan Guzman, PT, CSCS, Owner, and Founder of Inspire Health Physical Therapy

It’s simple to assume that painful or achy knees are “just something that comes with age,” “wear and tear,” or that they are nothing and will go away on their own.

Your knee pain is difficult to explain, yet it doesn’t seem to be going away.

You are not alone if that is what is occurring to you. We frequently hear remarks like that. Knee pain is one of THE most prevalent issues we face in our physical therapy office.

Everyone we encounter is curious about how to manage knee discomfort and wants to know the following information:

“Why Am I Having to Go Through This?” or, “Why Do I Still Have Knee Pain That Worsens Despite Having Dealt With It for at Least Six Months, and Sometimes More?”

Most people believe that knee pain will “ease off” and go gone on its own. They’ll wake up one morning and their knee discomfort will be gone, as if by miracle. Then, 6 months later, you still have knee pain, which is frequently worse than when it began.

Does That Really Apply to You?

Another scenario that we see regularly in our physical therapy clinic is when patients go to their doctors and are told to “relax,” “try these meds,” and “come back in 6 weeks if it isn’t better.” But, 6 weeks later, they go back to the same Doctor since it hasn’t improved, only to be given ANOTHER prescription for even stronger medicines and possibly a knee brace.

Do You Recall Experiencing Anything Like This Before?

Maybe you’re confused because various people have given you contradicting information. If you suffer from knee discomfort and have been told that walking makes it worse or that you should do “this exercise” and “that exercise,” you may think you need to relax.

Knowing what to do might be challenging, and that’s just to avoid making knee pain worse.

As a result, they put off making a decision about how to best deal with their knee pain, which often leads to further discomfort. And many people just shrug it off as “part of life,” as if it were inevitable.

Do You Also Feel This Way?

Here Are 7 Additional Causes of Prolonged Knee Pain:

1. You anticipated it to go away on its own, but it didn’t.

2. You went to the doctor, who told you to rest and take painkillers, but the medications did little but mask the pain, and as soon as they wore off, knee soreness stopped you in your tracks again.

3. You just accepted it because a member of the family or acquaintance told you that everyone has knee discomfort as they get older.

4. You’ve sought help from other Healthcare Professionals or a Physiotherapist in the past, but nothing they said or did seem to help.

5. You’ve tried knee braces, but they’ve done little to help your pain.

6. You thought relaxing would be a good idea because you were in a lot of pain and swelling in your knees, but it still irritates you on a regular basis.

7. You tried a couple of ‘Youtube’ exercises, but they were uncomfortable to complete and did little to relieve your pain.

If any of these scenarios sound familiar, we’d love to assist you by encouraging you to contact one of our Physical Therapists in Miami, Florida to learn more about what we can do for you.

The fact that you’ve done any or all of these things is a GOOD THING since knowing what doesn’t work takes you closer to figuring out what does!

"What Can I Do to Quickly Ease My Knee Pain?"

Here are four options for you to consider:

1. Prior to anything else, you must choose whether or not to get help: Many people take weeks of rest in the hope that the pain will “just go away with time,” only to discover that six months later, nothing has altered. On the other hand, the discomfort and swelling get worse.

2. Next, perform the RIGHT exercises: One of the best things you can do to relieve knee pain is to perform the right series of progressed exercises; the exercises that a physiotherapist recommends for you will help you move more freely again quickly and prevent the issues from returning any time soon.

3. Avoid adopting uncomfortable sitting positions: You and I were not created to sit. Your knees are not intended to be an unusual, abnormal posture for extended periods of time like those you put them in when you sit and bend them. In order to get you moving and healthy as soon as possible, it would be very helpful if you were given the right strengthening exercises for better posture in addition to hands-on treatment.

3. Take part in “hands-on” physical therapy: Research has shown that people with knee pain benefit from physical therapy. Inspire Health Physical Therapy treats athletes and other active people with one of the most common illnesses out there. Physical therapy can help you resume living the life you deserve as soon as possible if your knee discomfort is interfering with your career, prohibiting you from being active, endangering your independence, and keeping you from spending quality time with family and friends.

“The first thing that catches your eye about Dr. Guzman are his good looks and the shape he is in. He’s at an elite level. Keeping aside that he looks like you just pulled him off of a daytime Univision soap opera, what you find beneath the very warm and personable bedside manner is a very disciplined and passionate expert of his craft. A dozen questions and multiple sessions in revealed it all to me. His gifts are his ability to explain very complex and scientifical findings in layman’s terms. You will understand the nature of your issue and the logic behind the well thought out approach he puts together for you. I’m truly happy to have found him and could not say enough good things about this man and his abilities. “
